Mangaluru, May 23, 2025: A tragic stabbing incident under the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru Rural Police on the night of May 22 resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man and injuries to his two sons.
The deceased has been identified as Suleman (50), son of Ahmed Bhawa and a resident of Vamanjoor. His sons, Riyab and Siyab, sustained injuries during the attack, which took place around 9:30 PM in Valachil.
According to preliminary investigations, Suleman worked as a marriage broker and had arranged the marriage of the accused, Mustafa (30), his relative, to a woman named Shaheenaz approximately eight months ago. However, the marriage soon soured, and Shaheenaz returned to her parental home two months before the incident, leading to tensions between Mustafa and Suleman.
On the night of the attack, Mustafa allegedly called Suleman and verbally abused him over the phone. In an attempt to resolve the issue, Suleman, along with his sons, went to Mustafa’s residence. While the sons waited by the roadside, Suleman approached Mustafa alone. He returned a short while later, telling his sons that the discussion had not been fruitful and suggested they leave.
At that moment, Mustafa reportedly rushed out of his house, shouted threats in the Byari language, and suddenly stabbed Suleman in the right side of the neck. Suleman collapsed on the spot. Mustafa then attacked the sons, stabbing Siyab in the left side of his chest and injuring Riyab’s right forearm.
Locals helped rush the injured to Janapriya Hospital around 11 PM. Suleman was declared brought dead, while his sons were admitted for treatment.
A case has been registered at the Mangaluru Rural Police Station under Crime No. 41/2025, invoking Sections 103(1), 109(1), 118(1), 351(2), 351(3), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The accused, Mustafa, has been taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
