
Mangaluru, Jul 10, 2026: The Additional District and Sessions Court FTSC-II has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on the charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The court has slapped a fine of Rs 55,000.
The convict is Afreed alias Appi (20), a resident of Kelaginakere, Addoor, Gurupura. He had befriended the 17 year old survivor through Instagram. He had allegedly informed her that he had loved and promised to marry her.
On May 27, 2024, when she was alone at home, Afreed visited her house and sexually assaulted her. Later, he allegedly told her that he had recorded a video and threatened to make it viral if she failed to cooperate with him in future. He also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.
He had sexually assaulted her multiple times. Later, the girl’s family had shifted to a rented house on June 1, 2025 in a different taluk. On August 6, 2025, Afreed went to her house and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
On October 3, he had an argument with the girl and informed her that he would not marry her. Upset over it, the girl attempted suicide by consuming phenyl at home. A case was registered and inspector Ravi BS investigated the case and filed a chargesheet before the court.
Judge Maanu sentenced the accused to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for the offence committed under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376(2)(n) of the IPC. Under IPC Section 506 for criminal intimidation, the court sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
The judge said that a fine amount be paid to the survivor as a compensation and also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 5.45 lakh to her. Special Public Prosecutor Sahana Devi Boloor argued on behalf of the state.
