Mangaluru: Man dies after being buried under soil in landslide near Kuntikana

Mangaluru, May 21, 2026: A 65-year-old man died after being trapped under debris following a landslide at Lohith Nagar near Kuntikana on Thursday (May 21).

The deceased has been identified as Anthony Mascarenhas (65), a resident of Urva Ashoknagar.

Personnel from the Kadri Fire Station rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations, but could not save him.

The incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday when Anthony was taking measurements for the construction of a compound wall behind a house. During the inspection, the soil suddenly caved in, leading to the accident.

Anthony had taken up the contract for the compound wall construction and had arrived at the site along with four other workers for inspection work. He was seriously injured after being buried under the soil and was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A house is situated on the upper side of the slope, and the compound wall was being constructed after a portion of the land had collapsed during last year’s monsoon.
