Mangaluru, Mar 2, 2026: A man attempted suicide by jumping into the river from the Netravathi Bridge, which has been identified as a suicide point. The incident comes just days after a portion of the bridge’s protective railing was damaged in a vehicle accident.

The man, a resident of Pumpwell–Naguri area, reportedly jumped from the bridge on Sunday. Fishermen who were engaged in fishing beneath the bridge immediately noticed the incident. They swiftly jumped into the river, pulled him into their boat, and later shifted him to a hospital after administering first aid.

Suicide attempt

It may be recalled that the protective barricade installed on the Netravathi Bridge was damaged in a recent vehicle accident. Despite spending lakhs of rupees on its construction, the concerned departments had not yet carried out repairs. Fishermen suspect that the man may have taken advantage of the broken section of the railing to jump.

The man was rescued by fishermen Jamal, Idinabba, and Maiyadi, whose timely action saved his life.
