Mangaluru : Man arrested after fleeing following three-year theft sentence

Mangaluru, January 19, 2026: The police have arrested an accused who went into hiding after being sentenced to three years in a theft case. The arrested individual has been identified as Naveen Siquera (52), a resident of Chambugudde, Permannur.

Cases were registered against him in 2011 and 2012 at Mangaluru East Police Station under FIR No. 195/2011, Section 392 IPC. After investigation, the court found the accused guilty and, in 2015, sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000.

Absconded man arrested


The accused challenged the order of the District Court and filed a criminal writ petition in the High Court. Upon reviewing the case, the High Court directed that the accused serve one year of simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 15,000, to be completed by 2022. It was also ordered that if he failed to comply, he would be subject to the previous sentence of the District Court.

After the verdict was announced, the accused went into hiding, and the court issued a warrant for his arrest.

On the 14th, based on confirmed information, the police arrested him at Suprabhat Bar and Restaurant in Honnekatte, Suratkal, and produced him before the court. The court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000, in accordance with the previous order.
