Mangaluru, May 30, 2026: MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has urged the district administration to extend three key city bus routes in Mangaluru to improve public transportation and cater to the city’s growing population.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, the MP recommended extending Route No. 5 from Morgans Gate to Jeppinamogaru. He also proposed extending Route No. 7 from Urwa Stores to the Baikampady Industrial Area to benefit industrial workers and daily commuters in the region.

Additionally, Capt Chowta suggested extending Route No. 13 to the interior areas of Panambur Beach, providing direct connectivity for domestic and international tourists as well as local visitors.

Highlighting the city’s rapid growth, the MP noted that several city buses continue to operate on outdated and shorter routes, making it difficult to meet rising transportation demands. He said the limited routes not only inconvenience commuters but also result in revenue losses for bus operators.

“Bus routes need to be expanded in line with the city’s increasing population and transportation requirements,” he stated.

According to the MP, the proposed extensions would benefit daily commuters, students, and employees while also improving access to major coastal tourist destinations and supporting tourism development in the region.

Following the recommendations made in the letter, the Deputy Commissioner’s office has written to senior transport department officials, directing them to place the matter before the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meeting for urgent consideration and appropriate action.
