Mangaluru: MESCOM deploys 489-member special task force in preparation for monsoon

Mangaluru, May 16, 2025: In anticipation of the southwest monsoon’s arrival by the end of May, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department, the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) has intensified its preparations to address potential weather-related emergencies.

To ensure an uninterrupted power supply and facilitate quick emergency response, MESCOM has established dedicated task forces across its operational areas in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts. According to MESCOM officials, a total of 489 personnel have been mobilized across 14 divisions, supported by 62 additional vehicles.

In Dakshina Kannada, 146 personnel have been stationed in Attavar, Kavoor, Puttur, and Bantwal, with 29 vehicles ready for deployment.

In Udupi, Udupi town has 55 personnel and 5 vehicles, Karkala has 24 personnel and 4 vehicles, and Kundapura has 48 personnel on the ground.

In Shivamogga, 33 personnel and one vehicle are in Shivamogga town, 24 personnel and 3 vehicles in Shikaripura, 10 personnel in Bhadravati, and 34 personnel along with 6 vehicles in Sagar.

In Chikkamagaluru, 40 personnel and 4 vehicles are stationed in Chikkamagaluru, 41 personnel and 3 vehicles in Koppa, and 34 personnel with 7 vehicles in Kadur.

Preventive tree trimming to minimize damage from falling branches or trees began in April and is nearing completion in Kavoor, Mangaluru, Bantwal, and Puttur divisions. In addition, 462 dangerously placed electric poles have been repaired, and maintenance has been completed on over 2,600 power distribution transformers.

To coordinate these efforts, MESCOM has appointed a nodal officer to supervise operations. Staff have been directed to upload geo-tagged photos of their completed tasks to a designated software platform. Officials report that approximately 80% of the preparatory work has already been completed.
