Mangaluru: Lifeguard with World Record dies after drowning in pool

Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2025: A tragic incident occurred at the Mangaluru City Corporation swimming pool in Ladyhill on Sunday when a coach and lifeguard drowned.

The deceased has been identified as K Chandrashekar Rai Surikumaru (52).

According to sources, the pool was closed to the public on Sunday for maintenance work. During this time, Rai entered the water for a swim but tragically drowned.

In 2023, Chandrashekar Rai had secured a place in the World Wide Book of Records by performing 28 somersaults underwater in one minute.

Police are investigating the incident.
