
Mangaluru, Feb 23, 2026: A leopard has been repeatedly sighted in the Maroli and Shaktinagar areas of the city, triggering serious concern among local residents. Locals said the animal was seen again on Sunday morning.
According to residents, the leopard has been appearing daily since February 17 in Shaktinagar, Maroli, and near the adjacent railway tracks. CCTV footage from a house in Shaktinagar captured visuals of the leopard entering the compound through the gate, confirming its presence in the residential area. Early morning churchgoers heading to the Kulasekhara Church have also reported spotting the animal, further heightening fear among the public.
People have informed the Forest Department about the leopard moving around in broad daylight near the Nantoor Suryanarayana Temple and Kulasekhara Church. Forest officials have confirmed the leopard’s movement in the area.
As the leopard poses a threat to pedestrians and residents, locals have urged the Forest Department to immediately set up a cage to capture the animal and alleviate public fear.
