Mangaluru, Jun 7, 2025: A major fire broke out late Thursday night at a residence in Bagambila Vaidyanathanagar, under the Kotekar Town Panchayat limits, completely gutting the house and destroying valuables including household appliances, daily essentials, and sarees kept aside for a wedding scheduled the following day.
The house belonged to Sushila Madivalti. At the time of the incident, Sushila, her husband Janardhan, daughter Asha, and sister Meera were attending a Mehendi function of a relative nearby.
Upon returning, Sushila opened the door and saw flames engulfing the interior. She immediately raised an alarm, alerting relatives and neighbors. Locals quickly intervened and managed to remove gas cylinders from the house, preventing a potential explosion. Despite their best efforts, the fire had spread rapidly and proved difficult to control.
The fire brigade arrived and eventually doused the blaze, but not before it had destroyed a refrigerator, grinder, television, fan, clothes, cupboards, and several other household items.
The family, already under financial strain, has been left devastated. Janardhan works as a daily wage labourer, while Asha is employed at a local medical education institution. Sushila and her sister Meera stay at home and are dependent on the incomes of Janardhan and Asha.
