Mangaluru, July 26, 2025: The Dakshina Kannada District Committee of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) inaugurated the newly constructed Centenary Building of the IRCS on Saturday. The building, constructed at a cost of ₹6 crore, is located in the premises of the old Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru city.
The Governor of Karnataka and President of the IRCS Karnataka State Branch, Thaawarchand Gehlot, inaugurated the new building.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Red Cross is a symbol of humanitarian service. He lauded the society’s exemplary work during the COVID-19 pandemic. He further mentioned that the Karnataka branch of the Red Cross, which operates at an international level, has won national awards twice for its service activities. The Governor appreciated the Dakshina Kannada District Branch for constructing the grand centenary memorial building.
On the occasion, he also released a commemorative issue of the Red Cross.
Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader said that the Red Cross is an organization that instills humanitarian values among students. Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta extended his wishes. MLA Vedavyas Kamath, IRCS State Vice-President Bhaskar Rao, and other dignitaries were present.
The event was presided over by IRCS Dakshina Kannada District Chairman CA Shantharam Shetty.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and IRCS District President Darshan H.V., Centenary Building Committee Chairman Pushparaj Jain, District Vice-President Dr. Satish Rao, Treasurer Mohan Shetty K., and directors Yatish Baikampady, Dr. Sachidananda Rai, Dr. Sumana Bolar, Gurudatta M. Nayak, A. Vithal, and P.B. Harish Rai were also present.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Kishore Chandra Hegde, and the program was compered by Dr. Manjula Shetty and Rajeshwari D. Shetty.
