Mangaluru: Four inter-district thieves arrested in Kordabbu Daivasthana theft case, valuables worth Rs 17.20 lakh seized

Mangaluru, Sep 11, 2026: The Mulki police have arrested four inter-district thieves in connection with the theft at Kordabbu Daivasthana in Adi Kilpady, Kilpady village, and recovered gold and silver ornaments and vehicles worth ₹17.20 lakh.

According to Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH, the theft took place around midnight on September 1. The accused allegedly broke open the lock of the main door of the sanctum sanctorum and stole valuable idols of Kordabbu Daiva along with gold ornaments.

A case was registered at the Mulki police station under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A special team was formed to trace the accused. Jaheed Sinan (36) and Yaseen (36) were arrested at Karnad in Mulki, while Mahammed Afridi (26) and S K Abdul Jumman (26) were arrested in Davanagere, the Commissioner said.

Following the arrests and police custody of the accused, the police recovered 4.521 kg of silver articles and 34.820 grams of gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹11.20 lakh. A motorcycle and a car allegedly used in the crime, together worth around ₹6 lakh, were also seized.

During the investigation, police found that the accused were allegedly involved in two other temple theft cases. These include a theft at Sri Mahalakshmi Mahaganapathi Temple in Kallapu, under the Ullal police station limits, and another at Vyaghra Chamundeshwari Temple in Inna village, under the Padubidri police station limits in Udupi district.

Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said Jaheed Sinan, the first accused in the case, has 18 previous cases registered against him at various police stations in Udupi, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, Davanagere and Mangaluru city.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Mangaluru North ACP Srikanth K by Surathkal Police Inspector Pramod Kumar, Mulki PSI Raghavendra Naik and personnel of the Mulki police station.
