Mangaluru: Five sentenced to life imprisonment in 2015 Madur Yusuf murder case

Mangaluru, Oct. 2, 2026: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced five accused to life imprisonment in connection with the 2015 murder of Madur Yusuf at the Mangaluru Sub-Jail. The verdict was pronounced on October 1.

Madur Yusuf was brutally murdered inside the Mangaluru Sub-Jail, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Barke Police Station, on November 2, 2015.

The convicts have been identified as Likitha Poojary alias Likhu of Surathkal, Shobharaj alias Shobhi of Surathkal, Yuvaraj of Surathkal, Pradeep of Ulaibettu, and Umesh Kombaru alias Umesh Kumbara of Sullia.

Judge Jagadish V.N., who heard the case, pronounced the verdict on Thursday. The court sentenced all five convicts to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 76,000 on each of them.

Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) B. Mohan Kumar represented the State during the trial. Tilak Chandra, who was then the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mangaluru Central Sub-Division, conducted the investigation and filed the chargesheet before the court.

In connection with the incident, Barke Police had registered Crime No. 92/2015 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 143, 144, 147, 148, 324, 326, 353, 332, 307, 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), read with Section 149.
