Mangaluru: DK Congress holds fasting satyagraha against MGNREGA amendments

Mangaluru, January 21, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee organized a “fasting Satyagraha” in protest against the Central BJP government’s amendment of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and to demand the reinstatement of the original provisions.

The protest was held from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Rajaji Park, near Kudmul Rangaraya Purabhavan. Participants offered floral tributes at the statue and continued the fasting Satyagraha until 4:00 p.m.

Congress leaders present at the event included former minister Ramanath Rai, Ivan D’Souza, Harish Kumar, Padmaraj, Shashidhar Hegde, and Jerr Lobo, along with several party workers.
