Mangaluru, Apr 14, 2026: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Darshan H V, has urged residents to complete their house listing online as part of India’s first digital census initiative.
In a release, the DC said that census data collection is currently underway in the district in two phases under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, on behalf of the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.
He informed that citizens have been given the option to participate in a self house-listing process. Assuring data security, he stated that all personal information, including names and identities, will remain confidential and will not be used for taxation or investigation purposes.
The self-enumeration process, open from April 1 to 15, takes around 15–20 minutes to complete. Upon submission, a unique self-enumeration (SE) ID is generated, which must be shared with enumerators during their verification visit.
So far, 57,466 houses in Dakshina Kannada have been covered under the self house-listing process, and the drive is continuing across the district.
Explaining the procedure, the DC said citizens can visit the official portal, log in using an OTP sent to their mobile number, select their state, district, and local details, mark their house location on the digital map, and fill in household information. After submission, the generated SE ID will be used by enumerators to verify the details.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all residents to complete their house listing online within the stipulated time.
