Mangaluru: DC directs pet shops to mandatorily register with SPCA

Mangaluru, June 25, 2025: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H V  Darshan has directed all pet shops in the district to mandatorily register with the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Addressing a meeting of the District Animal Welfare Society at his office on Tuesday, the DC said pet shops which operate without SPCA registration within the given time limit will face legal action.

The meeting discussed the proposal to set up an Animal Friend Hospital at Bondantila.

Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry Dr Arun Kumar Shetty who also spoke, informed that awareness programmes were held for the public and students with the objective of encouraging them to treat animals with kindness and compassion.

SP Dr Arun K, ACP Geetha Kulkarni, MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik,  District Animal Welfare Society Member Suma Nayak and others were present.
