Mangaluru: Child kidnap rumours in Kuntikana; Commissioner clarifies truth behind viral voice message

Mangaluru, Feb 28, 2026: Baseless rumours about the kidnapping of school children in the Kuntikana area of the city have been circulating on social media. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has clarified that the public should not pay attention to such false news.

Truth Behind the Audio:

Police traced and questioned the woman who had circulated the viral voice message. During the inquiry, she stated, “I recorded the audio after overhearing some students talking on the road.” This means she did not witness any such incident herself but shared the audio based solely on what she had heard.

Warning Against Spreading Rumours:

“There is no need for the public to panic unnecessarily. Strict legal action will be taken against those who share such fake messages being circulated in the name of kidnapping,” Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy warned. He also urged parents not to panic and to directly inform the police if they receive any suspicious information.
