Vigilance Awareness Week is one of the outreach measures initiated by the Central Vigilance Commission wherein all the stake holders are encouraged to prevent and combat corruption. The theme of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week, 2023 as announced by the Central Vigilance Commission is “Say no to Corruption, commit to the Nation”.  Mangaluru Central Excise & Central Tax Commissionerate, besides taking the Integrity Pledge, conducted several outreach programmes for the trade, industry, stake holders as well as the general public to bring about awareness and spread the message of the continuous fight against corruption.

Shri S Kesava Narayana Reddy, Commissioner presided over the function. and highlighted the various measures that have been introduced by the Government to effectively tackle the menace of corruption in various spheres of the department. He also called upon the general public to be vigilant and strengthen their resolve to fight corruption. The Chief Guest for the function, Dr.Raj Mohan Balakrishna, Professor, NITK, Surathkal spoke at length on the issues faced by the general public in dealing with  corruption.

Several measures have been taken by the Central Board of  Indirect Taxes, & Customs (CBIC) keeping in view the urgency in reducing corruption at all levels. In this regard, outreach programmes were organized by the Commissionerate which included Awareness Grama Sabha in Pudu Panchayat, Bantwal and Alevooru Grama Panchayat, Udupi. A Grievance Redressal Meeting was organized with members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry(KCCI), Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and other stake holders to understand the grievances and issues faced by them. A Quiz programme on vigilance awareness was also conducted to sensitise the officers of the department. Run for Vigilance Awareness was held on 4th November, 2023 with active participation of officers and the members of  trade and industry.
