Mangaluru: Body of youth who jumped into Phalguni River at Gurupura recovered

Mangaluru, Apr 9, 2026: The body of 30-year-old Kowshik Belchada, who had jumped into the Phalguni river from the Gurupura bridge on Wednesday evening, was recovered on Thursday afternoon.

Kowshik, a resident of Kaje Paddayibettu, had arrived at the bridge on his scooter around 6:30 pm on Wednesday. He reportedly parked the vehicle on the bridge before jumping into the river. Due to darkness, a full-scale search operation could not be carried out on Wednesday night.

On Thursday morning, personnel from the Mangaluru Fire and Emergency Services resumed the search operation. Diving experts from Panemangaluru also joined the effort. After a thorough search near the bridge pillars, the body was located and retrieved.

Bajpe police, who had taken custody of the scooter found on the bridge, have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
