Mangaluru–Bengaluru train services resume after landslide repair works

Mangaluru, Aug 4, 2026: Train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru resumed on Monday night after the Railway Department completed restoration and repair works on the landslide-hit section between Yedakumari and Shiribagilu.

Rail operations had been suspended after heavy rains triggered a landslide, depositing large amounts of mud on the tracks and disrupting services.

Following the completion of restoration work, railway authorities conducted a detailed safety inspection of the repaired track. After all technical assessments confirmed the line was safe for operations, the route was cleared for train movement on Monday night.

A trial run using a locomotive was carried out to verify the stability of the restored section before regular passenger train services were allowed to resume.

As a precaution, trains will operate at a restricted speed of 10 kmph through the repaired stretch. Railway officials said passengers may experience minor delays initially, with normal schedules expected to be restored gradually.

Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mudit Mittal supervised the restoration efforts, visiting the site along with senior railway officials to review the progress and issue necessary instructions.

Railway authorities said the restoration work was completed within the planned timeframe through the continuous efforts of engineering teams, ensuring the safe resumption of services on the Mangaluru–Bengaluru route.
