Mangaluru: Bakery owner and son assaulted by auto-drivers over parking dispute; incident caught on CCTV

Mangaluru, May 23, 2025: A disturbing incident unfolded at Thokkottu Junction when two auto-rickshaw drivers forcibly entered a bakery and assaulted the owner and his son after being asked to move a parked vehicle. The entire episode was captured on the bakery’s CCTV, and a formal complaint has been lodged at the Ullal police station.

The confrontation began when Ashwin Kumar, proprietor of Maruti Sweets, requested auto driver Basheer to reposition his tempo rickshaw, which was blocking the front of the shop. Enraged by the request, Basheer, along with another driver, Ishaan, stormed into the bakery and attempted to assault Ashwin.

Ashwin’s mother and a female staff member, who were present at the time, tried to intervene but were also pushed and nearly assaulted. The situation intensified until Suchivrutha Shetty, owner of the neighboring Shivasagar Hotel, stepped in and managed to force the attackers out of the shop.

The assault and altercation were clearly recorded by the bakery’s surveillance system. Ashwin has since filed a complaint with police, accusing Basheer and Ishaan of physical assault and issuing death threats against him and his mother.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident using the CCTV footage and the filed complaint.
