Mangaluru, Oct 28, 2026: BJP workers and local residents staged a protest in Kadri Shivabagh ward under the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), condemning the poor condition of the road and accusing the state Congress government and the civic body of failing to allocate funds for its repair.

Addressing the protesters, Mangaluru City South MLA Vedavyas Kamath said the previous BJP government had earmarked the necessary funds for road development under the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana-1.

However, after the Congress government came to power, the funds were withheld, leaving the road unrepaired and forcing residents to face daily hardships, he alleged.

Kamath said repeated appeals had been made to the concerned authorities, but no action had been taken. He expressed support for the residents’ demand and said the BJP would organise protests in wards where roads were riddled with potholes to draw the attention of the authorities to the problems.

He also criticised the functioning of the civic administration, stating that it had been two years since the BJP’s tenure in the MCC ended, yet officials were allegedly not even answering calls from former corporators.

"If officials do not respond to elected representatives who are familiar with local issues, how will residents’ problems be resolved?" he asked.

Several BJP leaders, former corporators and local residents participated in the protest.

Those present included Ramesh Hegde, Lalesh Kumar, former corporators Kavya Nataraj Alva, Manohar Shetty Kadri and Shakeela Khava, along with Vikram Chowta, Jayakumar, Ravichandra, Praveen Niddel, Ramachandra Chowta, Ashwith Kottari, Kiran Devadiga, Ram Prasad, Naveen Shenoy, Deepak D’Souza and several others.
