Mangaluru: Assam native absconding for six years arrested in mobile shop theft case

Mangaluru, May 12, 2026: Baikampady police have arrested an Assam native who had been absconding for the past six years after allegedly being involved in a theft case at a mobile phone shop in Baikampady.

The accused has been identified as Parul Hussain Laskar alias Parul (34), a resident of Cachar district in Assam.


Absconded thief

According to police, the accused had allegedly broken into ‘Pooja Mobiles’ at Kudumbur in Baikampady in 2018 and stolen mobile phones, spare parts and cash worth around Rs 2.17 lakh. He had also allegedly damaged computers in the shop.

A case had been registered at Panambur Police Station. After securing bail, the accused failed to appear before the court and had been absconding since 2018, following which the court issued a warrant against him.

Acting on the directions of senior officers, a police team led by Inspector Mohammed Salim Abbas conducted an operation at Manjeshwar on Monday (May 11) and took the accused into custody. He was later produced before the court.
