Mangaluru: APMC secretary accused of sexual harassment; women’s team confronts official

Mangaluru, Jul 27, 2026: A controversy erupted at the office of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Mangaluru after its Secretary, C.H. Mohan, was accused of sexually harassing a Group D woman employee. Following the allegations, a women’s delegation led by Prathibha Kulai, a member of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, paid a surprise visit to the office and confronted the official.

According to the allegations, the woman employee had been subjected to repeated harassment by the APMC Secretary. It has also been alleged that he attempted to sexually harass her by offering monetary inducements.

The allegations further claim that the Secretary had instructed the woman employee to wear a green saree to the office on Monday. In protest, Prathibha Kulai and members of the women’s delegation also arrived at the APMC office wearing green sarees. On entering the office, they confronted the Secretary, asking, "We have come wearing green sarees as you instructed. Now tell us," while strongly condemning his alleged conduct.

The delegation sought an explanation from C.H. Mohan over the allegations of sexual harassment and warned that any behaviour compromising the dignity and safety of women employees in government offices would not be tolerated.

The incident has sparked serious concern, with the women’s team demanding a thorough inquiry into the allegations and appropriate legal action against those found responsible. The allegations have not yet been independently verified, and no official response from the accused or the APMC administration was immediately available.
