Mangaluru, Nov 3, 2025: A powerful air conditioner explosion on Sunday evening caused a major fire at a residence in Adyar Padavu, on the outskirts of Mangaluru, resulting in severe damage to furniture, clothes, cash, passports, and other valuables.
The house belongs to Faizal, who was not at home during the incident. The property had been securely locked when neighbours noticed smoke coming from inside. Acting quickly, they broke open the door and attempted to douse the flames. “We saw thick smoke pouring out of the house, so we forced the door open and tried to control the fire,” said a resident.
Faizal, who has been residing elsewhere, had recently begun preparing to move back into the house. Reports indicate that an air conditioner was installed just four or five days before the incident.
On Sunday evening, the newly installed unit reportedly exploded. With the doors closed, the smoke and flames spread rapidly inside the house, burning several items.
“The fire destroyed most of the household belongings, including furniture, clothing, cash, passports, and other valuables,” a local source said. Fortunately, no one was injured, though the property loss is significant.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blast. Preliminary findings suggest a malfunction in the newly fitted air conditioner may have triggered the fire, though officials are yet to confirm this.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of newly installed electrical appliances, with experts urging homeowners to ensure proper installation, use certified technicians, and conduct regular maintenance checks.
