Mangaluru, Apr 11, 2026: A tragic case of alleged abetment to suicide has come to light in the city, where a 22-year-old youth reportedly ended his life, unable to cope with alleged mental harassment from his girlfriend.

The deceased has been identified as Muhammed Ashiq, a resident of Edapadavu near Moodushedde. He allegedly died by suicide at his residence on the midnight of March 21. Initially, the exact reason behind his death was unclear. However, a probe into his mobile phone has reportedly revealed disturbing details.

Suicide

According to sources, Ashiq was a student at a private college in Kuloor, where he had fallen in love with a fellow student, Sameeha Saba, a resident of Ullal. The two were said to share a close relationship. However, in recent days, Saba had allegedly begun distancing herself from Ashiq. His family has further alleged that she subjected him to mental harassment.

Ashiq’s father, Muhammed Haneef, has lodged a complaint at the Kavoor Police Station, blaming Saba’s alleged harassment for his son’s death. In the complaint, he claimed that she used abusive language and even told Ashiq to “go and die.” It is also alleged that Saba was on a video call with Ashiq at the time of the incident and had instigated him to take the extreme step.

The grieving father has further accused Saba of exploiting his son emotionally and financially, alleging that she pretended to be in love while making him spend money, ultimately pushing him towards suicide. Family members say Ashiq was sincere in his feelings and are demanding justice.

Kavoor police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials are currently examining mobile phone data, including chat records and the alleged video call, as part of the probe.
