Sahana, who hails from Ullal, completed her basic education in Anandashrama School in Someshwar. In 2001, she graduated from Msyore Sports Hostel.

Purushottam Poojary, her physical education teacher in college, says that Sahana’s sister Harishini is also a talented athlete. Recalling that he had wanted Sahana to qualify for the Olympics, he said that he is happy about her achievement.

The sisters won plenty of medals at the state level in their school days. When Sahana was doing her post graduation, she created a new record at the university level and again at the All India Inter University Level Sports Meet.

Sahana’s mother Yashoda used to wake both sisters early in the morning and send them for training. This helped the two succeed in sports. Sahana, who is now employed in the Central Railways, has won a number of medals at the local, national, as well as international levels.

Coach Vasanth Kumar says that Sahana’s achievements and her dedication to sports are indeed praiseworthy, especially as she is the mother of a child. Her husband Nagaraj is also a successful athlete.
