Mangalorean Rev Dr.Alfred Rayan D’Souza is Monsignor, posted to Nunciature of Croatia

Mangaluru, Nov 03, 2020:    The Diocese of Mangalore joyfully extended good wishes and congratulations to Rev. Dr. Alfred Rayan D’Souza on his appointment as Chaplain to his Holiness. The Vatican Secretariate of State on October 11, 2020, confirmed his appointment as Chaplain of his Holiness, granted  by the Pope. He is entitled to be addressed as ’Monsignor’  and have certain privileges, such as regards ecclesiastical dress and so on. Presently, Msgr Alfred Rayan is serving as Second Secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature at Zagreb in the Republic of Croatia, a Diplomatic position in the Vatican Nunciature.

Rev Dr Alfred Rayan hails from Pangala, in Udupi district of Karnataka State in South India.  Born in March 1980, he prepared for the priest hood  at St.Joseph’s Seminary Mangalore and was ordained on April 15, 2008. After his ordination  he served at Rosario Cathedral as Assistant Parish Priest  2008 - 2010,  Assistant Director Gladsom Home 2010-11, He attended higher studies in Rome from 2011.   He completed Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University.  In 2015, he was invited to join Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy which prepares priests for the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He also continued my doctorate studies in Canon Law and obtained a doctorate degree from the Pontifical Lateran University. After the studies, he was assigned to the Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda, in August 2017.  In 2019 he was posted to Croatia.
