
Mangalore, Aug 21, 2013: Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo said Mangalore would get 24x7 drinking water facility within the next two and a half years after taking up necessary works to ensure solution to the water problem which several places of the city are facing at present.
He was speaking to reports here on August 21, Wednesday to brief about the various works taken up by the state government in Mangalore. He said under the project, measures would be ensured that each house had a water connection. An aid of Rs 170 crore has been sought from the government in this regard, he added.
Lobo informed that so far Rs 250 crore has been spent on underground drainage system and added Rs 150 crore more is needed to complete the pending work and added the fund is in the sanctioning stage. He said the underground drainage laying project would be completed within three years.
Lobo also stated that the steps will also be taken to give a facelift to the markets at various places including Kadri, Alape, Urva and Kankanady. He also stated that the government had responded positively to the request to bring about stability to the fluctuating land prices in the city.
He also briefed on the single window system introduced at the MCC office to avoid the hassles of people seeking building licences as they otherwise had to approach the MUDA.
