Mangalore airport: DGCA tells AAI to submit documents

Mangalore Today News Network

Bangalore, September 24: In what could be termed as a shocking development, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday filed a letter before the Karnataka High Court in which it stated that certain documents it had asked the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to submit had so far not been given to it.

The documents, the DGCA said in the letter, is essential before it renews the licence of the Mangalore Airport to continue operations.

In the letter to AAI on June 15, 2010, the DGCA had asked it to submit some more documents if its application for renewal of licence to operate the Mangalore airport was to be considered.

The DGCA said the AAI had only submitted two documents for its consideration — the aerodrome manual and the SMS manual.

The letter said the issue of grant of renewal of permission was discussed at a meeting and it had been resolved to ask the AAI to submit some more documents within a month.

When the matter came up before a Division Bench of Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K. Govindaraju, the Bench recused itself from the case and asked the registry to post it before a new Bench.
