Mangalore: Yesteryear beauties on city roads

Mangalore, Jan 27, 2013: Mangaloreans, on January 26, Saturday were delighted to see yester year beauties descending on the city roads. The credit goes to the Mangalore Motor Sports Association for organizing this much appreciated UAE Exchange Vintage and Classic Car Carnival at Nehru Maidan on Republic Day.District in-charge Minister CT Ravi flagged off the rally.


As many as 64 vintage vehicles including 24 four wheelers and 40 two wheelers were part of this special Carnival, the 11th edition of the car rally. What was noteworthy was that all the yesteryear beauties were in top running condition.

It was a pleasure to watch as these vintage beauties pass through the mains streets of the city from Nehru Maidan to Sultan Battery. The show featured a Ford call of 199 model, a Chevrolet of 1933 model. Hemaraj from Moodbidri proudly presented his vintage beauty bought by his father. The seven seater has so far travelled 38,888  miles.


Of the 40 two-wheelers on display, 14 belonged to a single owner. Some f the two-wheelers which participated included a 1954 model Ambassador Supreme. 1956 model Lambretta, 1964 model Vespa,  1988 model Yezdi Colet.


Though a  1946-Dodge Power Wagon Truck belonging to Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr Veerendra Heggade, was supposed to take part, it could not after it developed a snag enroute.
