Mangalore, Oct 11, 2013 : A mental health awareness programme was held at the RAPCC conference hall of Wenlock Hospital on October 10, Thursday as part of World Mental Health Day.
The progamme was jointly organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Kasturba Medical College, Wenlock District Hospital and Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) - Karnataka Chapter. Arun Chowdapurkar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, inaugurated the programme.
In his address, Chowdapurkar said there is a need for a growing awareness about mental health and added people must be enlightened on the causes of mental ailments and the solutions to the same.
Dr KS Madhav Rao, President of IIPS, Karnataka chapter spoke on ‘Mental Health and Older Adults.’ He said schizophrenia and bi-polar diseases should be taken serious note of . A healthy lifestyle would help in overcoming many a problem, he further added.
A leaflet on mental health awareness was released by Dr V Surendra Shetty,Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University.
Subrahmanya JS, Principal Sessions Civil Judge, Dr HS Shivakumar, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, Dr Erappa, Regional Medical Officer, Dr Ravish Thunga, Head of Department of Psychiatry and others were present.
