
Mangalore, Dec 8, 2012: ‘Vidhana Sabha 60’- a two-day photo exhibition to mark the 60 years of Karnataka Legislature, was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive officer Vijayaprakash, at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan of University College in Mangalore on December 7, Friday.
The exhibition unveiling the rich legacy of Karnataka Legislature, has been organised by the Department of Information.
The exhibition features over 200 rare photographs of various milestone events in the history of the legislature and Karnataka government over the past six decades. There are also photographs of the state governors, chief ministers and assembly speakers whom Karnataka has seen since six decades.
Some of the photos on display include those of the historic visit of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution to Bangalore, the foundation laying for the Vidhana Saudha by then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, then Governor Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar administering oath to then chief minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah and even photos of the swearing in of the present Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar. Also on display are photographs of the historic SAARC conference held in Bangalore and those taken during the visit of Bill Gates to the capital. Even photographs of the first legislature session in Belgaum are exhibited.
Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Harish Kumar, Information Officer Rohini and other dignitaries were present at the inaugural function.
