
Mangalore, Dec 1, 2012: The three-day state level wrestling competition organised by the Pre-University Education Department and Shree Gokarnanatheshwara PU College was inaugurated at the College grounds on December 1, Saturday by Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat.
In his inaugural address, Bhat said Lord Hanuman is considered the strongest wrestler in Hindu mythology and also the role model for wrestlers.” Worshipping Hanuman both physically, mentally and spiritually will increase the power in a wrestler,” he added. He further said a strong determination and willpower would go a long way in the success of a wrestler.
Deputy Mayor Amithakala, Vasanth Karandur, Dr B G Suvarna, K R Thimmayya, Dr B Gangadhar, Jagjeevandas Bhandary, Physical Director Purushottham and others were present on the occasion.
Contestants Prajwal from DK and Vivek from Bangalore who are participating in the 96+ category and Nagaprasad from Dharwad and Mohammad Nauraz from DK who are contesting in the 96kg category presented their performance before the dignitaries.
A total of 201 male wrestlers and 64 female wrestlers from across the state are participating in this contest in various categories. DK has 18 contestants including 10 boys and 8 girls. In the boys’ category, four participants are from Gokarnanatheshwara PU College, two each from Govinda Dasa College and Yenepoya College and one each from Rosario and St Aloysius College. In girls’ category, three contestants are from Shree Gokarnanatheshwara PU College and five from Alva’s College.
