Mangalore Railway Station to go international under PPP model

Mangalore, July 29, 2013: The Mangalore Railway Station will be upgraded to international standards under  the Public Private Partnership Model and the consultancy work has been handed over to Kerala Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization (KITCO).

The above information was provided by a senior railway official at the Railway Grievance Redressal Meeting held at Circuit House on July 29, Monday.The official also informed that the  firm will identify the private firm for partnership.The site analysis report plan was also presented to Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel who presided over the meeting.

It was also informed at the meeting that the 4th and 5th platform at Mangalore Central station will be built at a cost of Rs 16.19 crore, including constructing  high-level platform at a cost of Rs 2.55 crore and signals at a cost of Rs 55 lakh among other things.

When the MP questioned the reason for the  opposition of the railway authorities towards the demand of the public to construct a railway level crossing near Baikampady APMC, the officials said the incrasing accidents near railway crossings was the reason for the same. They informed  that the  railway over bridge works near Baikampady would  be completed in the next two years.


Nalin further directed the railway officials to  take  steps to initiate construction works of the  Bajal railway under bridge at the earliest. Regarding the   under pass and over bridge at Jeppu Mahakalipadpu, officials said the blue print is under preparation.


The MP also instructed the  RTO officials to permit KSRTC bus services from Mangalore to Kankanady Railway Station.


 Railway officials from Palakkad and Mysore divisions, MCC officials and several representatives from  various departments attended the meeting.
