Mangalore: Polling begins on brisk note in DK ; Poojary, Nalin cast their vote

Mangalore, April 17, 2014 :  Polling for the Lok Sabha elections began at 7 am  on April 17, Thursday in Dakshina Constituency where 14 candidates including B Janardhana Poojary of the Congress, Nalin Kumar Kateel of the BJP and MR Vasudeva of the AAP are in the fray. There are a total of 1564093 voters in DK including 7,90.423 female voters and 7,73,602 men voters.

People are seen queued up outside various polling stations in Mangalore. Congress candidate Janardhana Poojary was seen standing in a queue outside a polling booth in Bantwal. He later exercised his franchise. Several people present outside the polling station were seen greeting the leader.

BJP candidate Nalin Kumar cast his vote along with his wife at Ladyhill School.

JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South and his wife cast their votes at St. Theresa School Bendore, while Mangalore Bishop Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza exercised his franchise at the polling station at Ganapathy High School.

Apart from the Congress, BJP and AAP candidates, the CPI(M) has fielded Yadava Shetty, SDPI has Haneef Khan as its candidates and  Supreeth Kumar  Poojary of Hindustan Janatha Party, Abdul Karim of BSP and  independents Anand Gatti, Kushala Bellare, Sudatta Jain, Deepak Rajesh Coelho, Maxim Pinto, KN Somashekhar and Subrahmanya Gowda.

Security has been stepped up for the polls. Polling will be held upto 6 pm.
