Mangalore: Iranian saffron worth Rs 12 lakh seized from Keralite at airport

Mangalore, Aug 23, 2013 : Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport seized 12 kgs of Iranian saffron from a passenger who arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai on August 22, Thursday.

The value of the saffron has been estimated at Rs 12 lakh.The arrested passenger is Abdul Rasheed (29)  from Mattannur in Kannur district of Kerala.

The passenger was found in possession of saffron hidden in carton in between clothes. He has been produced before the court.

The seized saffron is of Begonia brand used for bakery products.
