Mangalore, Jan16,2013 : The foundation for the Divine Mercy Church was laid at the Fatima Retreat House premises on January 16, Wednesday. Fr Ravi Santosh Kamath blessed the site and laid the foundation stone.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Eugene Lobo, Director of Fatima Retreat House said the new shrine will remind the people of the mercies of God. He said the Shrine is for all people who wish to seek divine mercy and called upon the laity and the clergy to be grateful for the providential care of the Almighty.
He informed that the Church would come up at a cost of Rs 3.4 crore and would be completed by Easter next year. The land was donated by James MS Britto and family, Fr Eugene said.
Several priests including Fr Francis Almeida from St Aloysius and Fr Valerian, Parish Priest of Milagres Church were present on the occasion.
The site where the shrine will be located had been blessed by the Bishop of Mangalor Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza on April 15 last year.
