Mangalore: Every citizen must have right to choose leaders : Scholar Govindacharya

Mangalore, Sep 30, 2013: Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan in association with Prajaprabhuthva Ulisi Vedike, Karnataka organized a conference on ‘Paryaya Rajaneethi’ at Town Hall on Sep 30, Monday.

Delivering the inaugural speech, Scholar K N Govindacharya said that if earlier we  used to have Government of the people, by the people and for the people,  now we have  Government of the Corporators, by the Corporators and for the Corporators.  This sort of  practice which  curtails the rights of the citizens  should be changed, he said.

 

He further said as against the present system wherein the MPs and MLAs have the right to select the President, there should be a system wherein every citizen  must be given the  right to decide on the leaders who will represent them right from the Panchayat level.

Commenting on the huge backlog of court cases which  runs upto three crores, he  said the government  instead of worrying over it was busy dealing with its own scams.

Financial expert Jagadish Shettigar, thinker M C Raj, National Convener of the Forum Surendra Bheesta, State organizers Anna Vinaychandra and Ganesh Shanubhag were among others present on the occasion.
