Mangalore, Feb 2, 2013: Dakshina Kannada District Women’s Congress will organize a convention and felicitation programme at Town Hall on Feb 5, Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at District Congress office on Feb 2, Saturday, Mamatha Gatty, District Women’s Congress President, said that the convention will be inaugurated by Maheshwari, All India Women’s Congress Vice President. Manjula Naidu, President, Karnataka Women’s Congress will preside.
Senior Congress leader and AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes, Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily, former union minister B Janardhan Poojary, KPCC state President Dr G Parameshwar, AICC Secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake, District Congress President B Ramanatha Rai, Legislators Abhaychandra Jain, U T Khader and Vasantha Bangera will be the guest of honour on the occasion.
Former minister Motamma, MCC Mayor Gulzar Banu, former Minister Rani Sathish, AICC secretary Geetha, former MP BK Thara Devi and Tejaswini Gowda, Women’s Congress state Vice President Sarala Kanchan, Udupi Women’s Congress district President Veronika and KPCC Secretary Shyamala Bhandary will participate as the chief guests, Gatty said.
She said that around 2,500 women are expected to participate in the convention aimed at empowering women and to fight against injustice and exploitation of women. She also said that senior members will honour one woman from each of the 16 blocks of the Congress.
Congress women leaders Kripa AmarAlva, B N Bharathi, Shashikala Prasad, Shobha Keshav, Lakshmi Nair, Hilda Alva, Lokeshwari Vinaychandra, Yashavanthi Alva and others were present at the press meet.
