Mangalore: District Badminton Championship 2012 inaugurated at Srinivas Mallya Indoor Court

Mangalore, Dec 1, 2012: Nearly 300 badminton players from across the district are taking part in the Dakshina Kannada District Badminton Championship 2012 which began at the U Srinivas Mallya Indoor Court in Mangalore on December 1, Saturday.

The tourney organised under the aegis of the  Dakshina Kannada District Badminton Association, was declared open by S Ramesh, Chairman of MUDA. 

A Sadananda Shetty, entrepreneur and President of the DK District Badminton Association, Ashok Poovaiah, a former international badminton player, Ramananda Rao, Vice President of the DK Badminton Association and Ivan Patrao, its General Secretary, were among others present on the occasion.

The championship will be held  in various categories. There will be singles and doubles matches for boys and girls in the under 13, under 16  and under 19 category.  Under the open category there will be singles and doubles event for men. There will be doubles event for the above 45 Masters Category and Open Mixed Doubles Category.

The tournament will conclude on December 2, Sunday. The prizes will be awarded to the winners at the valedictory function.
