Mangalore: District Administration observes ’International Senior Citizens day’

Mangalore, Oct 1, 2013: Dakshina Kannada District Administration jointly with DK Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child welfare department, Mangalore Senior citizens Association and Self help groups observed ’International Senior Citizens day’ at Little Sisters of the poor, Bajjodi on October 1, Tuesday.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai said that the youths of the present generation are busy enjoying their personal life with their own family and friends and are least bothered to understand their parents.


The youngsters feel their parents as burden and admit them in the old age homes, forgetting about the love and care they got from them, he said. He urged the youths to look after their aged parents so that, the history do not repeat with them, when they grow old.


He also said that government is running many old age homes and is providing the pension of Rs 500 every month. The present government has sanctioned Rs 7 lakhs in the budget, where as the previous government was providing only Rs 3 lakhs in their budget.


 Gertrude Veigas, president of Women and Child welfare department welcomed the guests and gathering. 


V T Shenoy, president of Mangalore Senior Citizens Association handed over the memorandum to the minister on the occasion.


Dr Olinda Pereira and Sr Josphine were present on the occasion.
