Mangalore Diocesan priest Fr. Anthony D’Souza breathes his last

Fr Antony12july10 disMangalore, July 10, 2012: Rev. Fr. Anthony Joseph D’Souza of Mangalore Diocese breathed his last at 11:00 p.m. on July 9, Monday in a private hospital in Mangalore, at the age of 80. 


His final rites will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Valencia at 4:00 p.m. on July 11, Wednesday and his mortal remains will be buried in the priests’ cemetery in Valencia. 


Son of Sebastian D’Souza and Agnes Mathaias, he was born in Kulur on Nov 25, 1931 and served as a priest for nearly 53 years. After concluding his religious studies at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mangalore, he was ordained on March 2, 1959. 


Fr. Anthony served as the assistant parish priest of Barkur for 3 years and of Attur for 2 years. He was the vicar oeconomus (in-charge) of Perdal parish from 1964 – 70, the parish priest of Nekraje for 5 years, of Kelmbet for 7 years, of Padukone for 7 years, of Perampalli for 7 years, and of Kardady for 7 years. He was also the chaplain of Olavinahally for one year.


He retired from active priestly duties in 2004 and went to live in Kankanady Vianney Home, the home for retired and aged priests, till his death.


For the last 10 years, he suffered from several diseases such as diabetes, paralysis, and other ailments. He had even lost one of his legs a few years back.


The bishop, the chancellor, and the vicar general of Mangalore Diocese have expressed their heartfelt condolences.
