Mangalore, Dec 6, 2013: Gold smugglers have found yet another novel way of smuggling gold through airports. However, even this time it was a failure, thanks to the alert Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport.
On December 5, Thursday officials seized nearly 504.90 grams of gold which was found mixed with instant coffee powder in jars. A person identified as Mohammad Ashraf hailing from Adkattabail in Kasargod has been arrested. He had arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. The value of the seized gold powder is said to be Rs 15.39 lakhs.
Officials said the gold powder was filled into the coffee tins by making a small hole on one side of it after removing the wrapper.
