
Mangalore, Sep 5, 2013 : Customs officials at Mangalore International Airport have seized Iranian saffron of Badiee brand worth Rs 10 lakhs from a passenger who arrived by a Dubai fight on September 4, Wednesday. The saffron weighed 10 kg.

The arrested man is Shukur Pallipuzhu(24) of Pallikere in Kasargod district. The saffron was detected during baggage checking of the passenger who arrived by the 10.30 am flight. The saffron was found in two cartons in between clothes and other goods.
He has been produced before the magistrate. Though investigations revealed that he had been to Dubai on four earlier occasions, it is yet to be ascertained if he had smuggled saffron even on earlier occasions.
The operation was conducted by a team of officials led by Customs Superintendent CN Rajashekhar under the supervision of Customs Assistant Commissioner V Srinivas.
