Mangalore: Be harbingers of change, Justice Santosh Hegde tells students

Mangalore, Jan 18, 2013 : “Change can be brought about when people refrain from giving as well as accepting bribe. The youngsters should be the harbinger of this change, said former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde.

 

 

 

 

He was speaking at an interactive meet with  students of Lourdes Central School, held at Bejai Church Hall on January 17, Thursday. The programme was organised as part of Justice Hegde’s initiative to interact with youngsters and try to sensitize them on the evil of corruption.

Justice Hegde said corruption adversely affects the nation, particularly the poor and hurts their integrity. He also came down heavily on the politicians and said service no longer remained their objective. They have instead chosen to opt for politics to make money, he observed.

Justice said as part of his initiative he has interacted with students of 512 schools in six years. He delved on his experiences during his tenure as Lokayukta. He said the Karnataka Lokayukta Act of 1984 aims at ensuring good governance and prevention of corruption. He cited the fast approaching elections as the reason for the delay in appointment of a Lokayukta.
