Mangalore : Autorickshaw driver robs lady passengers of cash, gold worth Rs 7 lakh

Mangalore, May 31, 2013 :  An elderly woman and her daughter hailing from Bangalore were robbed of  valuables by the driver of an autorickshaw which they had hired   near the Jyothi circle bus stop on May 30, Thursday  morning. It is learnt, the duo was relieved of ornaments worth Rs 7 lakhs and a cash of Rs 5000.

Khaleeda (55) and her daughter Farah Kausar (28) who alighted from a bus at Jyothi boarded an auto to go to Bikarnakatta. It is learnt, the driver instead of taking them to their destination, telephoned two of his friends and took the vehicle to an unknown place and then forced the women to give their jewellery,.

When the women resisted the three men inflicted scratch injuries on their hands and neck  and robbed them of cash and gold. Later, the assailants left the women on a roadside before fleeing. The women later informed their relatives and lodged a complaint.

They have been admitted to a private hospital.
