Man gets lifer for sexually abusing, impregnating minor step-daughter

Udupi, Feb 08, 2023: The POCSO Court in the Udupi District Additional and Sessions Court  has sentenced a man to  life imprisonment in a case pertaining to sexually harassing his minor step daughter.

 

The convict is Ganesh Naik (49). Ganesh had a second marriage with the victim’s mother and was then living together with the victim and her mother. However when his wife had been to another town for work, Ganesh had  in October 2021 sexually abused the minor step-daughter after giving her juice laced with alcohol. When the mother returned after three months, she came to know that the daughter was pregnant. When the victim narrated her ordeal, a complaint was lodged in Kundapur police station in January 2022.  A chargesheet was then filed and a total of 10 witnesses were heard.

Apart from life imprisonment a fine of Rs 10,000 has also been imposed on the accused who has to undergo an additional one year imprisonment if he fails to pay the penalty amount.
