Man gets 24 years jail for raping, impregnating minor girl

Udupi, Jan 17, 2024: The POCSO Special Court of Udupi has sentenced a man to 24 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case of raping and impregnating a minor girl.

 

The convict is Keshav Naika (27), an autorickshaw driver from Brahmavar.  Keshav used to ferry the victim to school every day and had on February 17, 2023 expressed his love towards her and then took her to a lodge and raped her. He had even threatened her against divulging the matter before anyone. However, when the girl conceived, she revealed the truth to her parents following which a complaint was lodged at the Udupi Women’s Police station against Keshav.

The then police inspector Jayananda K had investigated and filed a charge sheet. Of the 28 witnesses 16 had given their statement in the court.
