Man detained at Mangaluru International Airport for smuggling hydroponic ganja in checked baggage

Mangaluru, Oct 14, 2025: A passenger arriving on a domestic flight was detained at Mangaluru International Airport on Monday, October 13, after security personnel discovered hydroponic ganja in his checked-in baggage.

The passenger, identified as Shankar Narayan Poddar, had arrived from Mumbai on an IndiGo flight that landed at 6:10 pm. Based on specific intelligence inputs, the CISF’s CIW team, along with the shift and ground officers, intercepted him upon arrival.

During a search, officials recovered approximately 512 grams of hydroponic ganja from his luggage.

Following standard procedure, the CISF alerted the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bengaluru and informed local law enforcement. The accused, along with the seized contraband, was handed over to Bajpe Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
